About Us

Breast augmentation may help a woman feel more beautiful. It’s no surprise that the number of women getting breast implants is rising all over the world as cosmetic surgery gains general acceptance. In the United States alone, more than 400,000 women are expected to get implants in 2007, a sharp increase over 2006, and this number does not include breast cancer patients who receive implants as part of post-mastectomy reconstruction.

As with any major surgery, breast implant procedures carry risks that any potential recipient must understand in order to protect her health. Many women getting implants, however, never become fully informed because, they think, implant surgery has become so routine it must be perfectly safe.

But getting breast implants is quite serious.

The purpose of this website, produced and maintained by Command Trust Network and In the Know, is to help women be fully informed about breast implants before making the decision to get them.

Sybil Goldrich founded Command Trust Network, the national breast implant information clearinghouse, in 1988. Command Trust works to ensure that not only women who are considering breast implants receive the information necessary for informed consent, but that scientists in related fields and decision makers in Washington are fully informed as they consider and legislate about medical devices and on behalf of women’s health.

In The Know, founded by actress Mary McDonough of The Waltons, is a forum that connects women from all walks of life with women in the entertainment industry in order to share information about womanhood and body image, addressing such issues as eating disorders and plastic surgery.
